Through this method, the acquisition of technique is thought of as a process that happens only when the individual development and physical constitution of each student are respected and the students’ possibilities and limits are taken into consideration; not as a rigid training that is forced upon the body.
Following the tradition of her teachers, Zélia Monteiro’s lessons are open to anyone who is interested, without any division based on level: regardless of previous knowledge of ballet, everyone learns together.
The pedagogy is based on knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology, where technique is introduced as a way to feel and understand the body and how it works.
TEACHER
Dancer, teacher and choreographer, bases her work on teaching dance on the perception of the body, as the main process for acquiring the technique.
At the basis of his creative and pedagogical research is the thought of Klauss Vianna*, with whom he worked for eight years; and the Italian classical school, which he studied with Maria Melô**, whose assistant he was for more than ten years. In 1993 he received the Bolsa Vitae de Artes for choreographic research carried out in Paris, where he lived for four years.
She was awarded by APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics) in 1987, 1992, 1998, 2010 and in 2016. In 2014 she won the Denilto Gomes Award from Cooperativa Paulista de Dança, in the Best Improvisation Solo category and was one of the five finalists of the Governor of the State of São Paulo Award, in the Dance category.
